IS your barrel squeaky clean.. Those patterns are wide open.. There is no core density what soever.

Lon0121

cleaned after every shot!!!  no matter what load i get i cant get a core density with theese 2 chokes!

will it be good to 40?

Feel me in on the barrel.  Does it have ports. Has any other work been done to it. One more thing is to check the bolt that holds it on. I have saw guns do wild things when it is lose just a small amount. You can get it to shoot just got to find what it wants.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

I would not shoot either of those combinations.  I counted 50 pellets in the first pattern.  I just don't know if you will get the patterns you are looking for using those shells.  I have not read 1 good word about them here.  You might get some improvement with #6 shot.  Have you tried the Win HV?

Go to Wal Mart and pick up some Win Supreme HV's and give 'em a try. Also, you may want to try and find a Star Dot choke for that Mossy. A lot of guys swear by that choke when paired with that gun.

the winchester hv no 6 patterned by far worse than this! a lot worse!  no ports in barrel its 28 inches and bolts are tight on it!  heres a turkey vital head shot on an 11 by 11 in paper at 35 yards using remington no 5 nitros and an undertaker choke!~  103 hits total

I would try a diff choke personally. Kick's does well with lead for me but I have a Remington 870.

I never had any good patterns in my 500 unless I shot the Winchester high velocity#5's or my own hand loads with copper 7 1/2's. I only used a factory full with it though but then again that was 20 years ago before we had all these specialty tubes. That gun and load that I used back then wasnt a 40-50 yard gun/load combo. I didnt like to shoot past 30 yards if I could help it. Things have changed alot since then though and I wouldnt be affraid to try some Nitro's out of it.

well....35 yards i have 103 pellets spread ok at best in a 11 by 11 box!   i just wont go past 35!  besides most turkey are killed closer!  maybe my gun isnt meant to be a plinker in distance!

my carlsons will shoot 4 buck out to 50 yards with a good pattern in the 500 though!  but shoots turkey like slug crap!

I would ditch the Remington loads and go with Winchester, if you are going to stick with lead. Winchester is way ahead of Remington in pattern performance with lead, IME.
