Hey guys, and gals, I know this isn't a gun smithing forum... but maybe some of yall can help me fix a issue with my 835. I bought this gun used a couple of years ago from a pawn shop. At the pawn shop I noticed the action was a little stiff, and kinda sticky (if that makes sense), but I did notice it was awfully dirty, so I figured it was nothing a good cleaning couldn't fix.Well I got it home, and put it in the corner for a month or so. When I finaly decided to get it out and mess with it I noticed a couple of problems. It wouldn't pull a shell from the tube and chamber it, and sometimes when I would shift, it would drop the shell out of the bottom. Upon further inspection I noticed the shell stop was broken, down on the lower corner. Well I tore the gun apart gave it a good cleaning and it smoothed on up... but there is still the issue with not loading. Well I called  Mossberg and they sent me a shell stop for free. ( Good CS in my opinion). I finally got it in today and installed it, but I'm still having the same issues "kind of". Now it will chamber but only if you rack it hard, and that's only about 80% of the time. Also after doing so 20-30 times, it got to where the action will get stuck when pulled all the way back hard. If you rack it softly it won't stick, but it also won't chamber a round. I called Mossberg about a year or so back to get the date of this gun and the best I can remember is its somewhere between 1990-1995. It has an old realtree wrap pattern and the stock seem to be a couple of inches shorter than my other 835. I would really like to get this thing back up and operating so if anyone has any suggestions  I'm all ears. And before someone says "throw it in a creek and buy a real gun" I have one, its just got a couple of issues that need worked out. Lol. No seriously I have a few more I can hunt with, I just want to get this one back in the woods where it belongs. Thanks for any help or advice.

Little update. I pulled the shell stop out of my other 835 and got the bend as close as I could, but it still wouldn't let a shell out to the elevator. This was after several attempts to get the right bend.Too much it won't cycle, to little it won't hold the shell in. After several attempts and still couldn't get it to work properly, I put the shell stop out of the good 835 in and it seemed to work. Put the not so good but new shell stop in the good 835 and it seemed to work. Don't really understand that. Went to shoot and it would cycle, but not 100%. So I put the good shell stop back in the good 835, and put the new stop that Mossberg sent to me back n the bad 835. It's got me scratching my head, so if anyone has any advice I'm all ears. Thanks

Mossberg parts are not too expensive....it might be a good idea to buy a new shell lifter (elevator)  and both shell stops, there's one on each side.  Since  you bent the one shell stop I would start with all new parts to eliminate potential problems.

agree with above, buy new parts.

Just placed the order. It's crazy, I looked on Midways site a couple of weeks ago and they were back ordered on shell stops, but they have them now. I will put all three peices in and see how it does. Thanks

Good luck, let us know how it comes out.

Alright guys, I know it has been a couple of weeks since this has been talked about. I found my issue, and wanted to post it. I changed the shell stop, the elevator, and the interupter. None of those fixed the issue. After scratching my head for a little while, I finally grabbed my other 835 and paid real close attention to how everything was working. Then I noticed the slide is supposed to slide over the shell stop once the slide is all the way back. Well mine wasn't the shell stop wouldn't kick over. After checking it out a little better I noticed the notch in my slide arm is broke. I know I'm not being very clear, but when you shift all the way back, just before the forearm is ll the way back the shell stop will kick over just a little bit more. I was able to fix the issue with a diamond stone but I need to get another arm, just so I want have to worry about it any longer. I will try to post a picture of the part im talking about. I know I have been a little long winded, but hopefully this will help someone else in the future. After searching google this seems to be a problem with some 835's.

Thanks for posting I wondered how you got along....That was about the only other place the problem could have been.

i was all ears on that one, bought a used 835 that was a year old ,while i was patterning it it wouldnt cycle a shell as if it or the slides got stuck?after I got back home I got a little more forceful with it and it did break free.I hope that tearing it all down and a good gun lube on the slides will fix this problem.

Mine was sticking pretty bad when all the way back. When I pulled the slide arms off and lightly filed them with a diamond stone, it didn't stick any more. What was causing the stick is when the notch broke it rolled a burr on the back side of the slide arm. Hope this helps

Mine hung up after the last of 5 shots, would not slide back almost as if the shell end over expanded and wouldnt allow me to eject it. dont know what happened
