I finally have decided to finish up my beards and spurs laying around.  I have procrastinated.  I have everything but the beards done.  I want to put the beards in the brass hulls from the shells I shot them with.  My question is how much of the plastic in the brass do I need to get out?  Do you have to burn all of that out?   Do you all use a hot glue gun?   I hope this makes sense.  Sorry if this was supposed to be on the taxidermy board but I want to finish this and didn't know how much traffic it gets.

I just cut the shell flush with the brass, knock out the primer ,squirt in some plumbers goop, and stick in the beard, add a cup hook or eye through the primer hole and let everything set up.

I trim the plastic even with the brass. The I take a screw driver, put it inside the hull and knock out the primer. Take a piece of string and make a loop, stick it in the primer hole and tie both ends in a knot. Then stick the beard in and fill in with hot glue. Then you can hang them up by the string/para cord.

I do mine a little differently.  I mount the beard in the shell the same, but I put the spurs on the string above the shell.  Gives it the complete package kind of.

The shells I shoot have a tall basewad so if you trim the hull to the brass, there is no roo to glue the beard in. I leave the hull full length, tie a square knot to join a piece of leather and then pull that through the primer hull

I put my empty shell cases in boiling water for ~ 2 minutes. Then use a pair of pliars to pull the plastic case out of the brass. All that is left is the brass. Pop the primer out with a scratch all. Cut a 6" long piece of boot leather and make a loop. Put both ends of the loop inside the primer hole about 1/2". Bend the pieces of leather over inside the brass. Then put a little hot glue on the brass and onsert the dried beard end. Make sure the beard is dry otherwise it will fall out after it shrinks from drying. Also make sure you don't put alot of glue in the brass because it will overflow when you insert the beard. Keep the brass upside down until the glue dries. I usually open a drwaer and put the leather down in the drawer and the beard facing up, to dry. After it dries your good to go and it shouldn't ever come out. Good luck.
