I posted about the lil h&r pardner pump youth 20, but after looking at it today for a cheap lightweight throw around gun(good heavens that thing is heavy)I decided on something else. What would y'all suggest?   Or any other less than 500$ rigs that y'all like?  I just want a short, light throw in the truck and take off runnin gun.  Preciate it, god bless. Btw, I plan on shootin fed hw 7s, or hevi 13 6, or 7. Plan on startin with a ic and tightwad

I tried them both before buying and the 870 suited me better personally. The only con I have found against the remmy is its finish. You'll have to have the matte finish painted or dipped, they rust. In my area right now, you can't find one...period !

The biggest pros on the mossy are that it comes in camo and is pre-drilled for optics. They can be found locally.

Tough choice, comes down to you.......good luck, it is fun setting these 20's up !  :icon_thumright:

I have accumulated both and am currently tweaking on both. The 500C is factory camo. As the above poster stated the 870s patina very quickly.

I'm in the same dilemma right now.  I want to get a 20 ga pump for turkey and grouse.  I have access to a 12 ga 870 that my cousin left when he moved 15 years ago - sure he wouldn't mind if it got some use, but I'm done with recoil after a bad 10 ga experience, and seems like with new ammo/chokes, i'll get better performance probably with a 20 than with my old 10 single shot.  I also want something that my son can shoot when he is ready in a couple years.

I was going to start a new thread, but yours is so similar I'll just watch yours.

I have to agree with the other guys, my cousins 870 has surface rust all over it - its the only rusty shotgun at my parents house.

I haven't ruled out the pardner pump yet - I'm not deterred by the weight.  I'm going to go to Dicks this week and check them all out and see what I think.

My girls shoot a bantam 500 with a 555 IC and nitro 7's. It shoots very good and they have killed a pile of turkeys with it. It's a good little gun. That being said, I'd go for the 870. That 500 rattles like crazy and the safety on top is not as easy to get to if a bird pops up close. My 8 yr old is left handed tho and it works for her.

I appreciate all the comments guys!  And no doubt about it being so fun haha.  I got this 20 ga bug badddddly   Not gonna get a chance to go 20 ga shopping till Thursday, and I'm determined to come back with one lol.  Like I said, I appreciate the comments.  I am definitely open to suggestions or ideas so any thoughts please post up. I cut my teeth on 870 wing masters and expresses and 1100-1187, but I have yet to get a compact 20 ga.   I've got to have one. Blessings brothers, and if I can figure out how to post a pic, I will when I get me one

good luck.  I just got back from Dicks.  I asked to see their 20 ga pumps and the guy looked at me like I had asked for a giraffe.  They only had one, an 870, and he didn't think they made any other 20 ga pumps.  I didn't argue, just said thanks and went on my way.  Super super unhelpful.

Lol lol lol.    And that he didn't know.   Dude, it takes 10 seconds to look on the computer.

I have both in 20 gauge.  The 870 is better in my opinion.  The bantam kicks more according to my 10 year old son(I tend to agree although it doesn't bother me).  I started using the 870 this year.  I doubt I will tote the 12 again.

I like both of them and currently have one of the 870's,the only bad thing I got against the 870 is the rusting.
The Mossberg is what I'm getting for my grandson,I just like it alot better than the 870.
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

This thread got me back interested in the Bantam.  I bought one in 2011 for my son.  He killed his first turkey with it when he was 7.  He missed another with it that year and became scared of the kick.  I switched him over to an 1100 with 2 and 3/4 inch shells.  Problem solved.  Last year he alternated between it and a youth 870.  He killed 5 long beards last year in SC at 10 years old.

I asked him the other day what gun he wanted to shoot this year and he said he wanted to try the Mossberg again.  It has sat in the coset since 2012. I just broke it out.  My casual observation of the gun is that it rattles pretty loud and the trigger pull is heavy.

We'll see what happens.  Shooting 3 inch HW 7's what chokes would you recommend for the Bantam?  I have a Carlon's extra full flush in it now.  Never experimented with any others.
