Is there any decent turkey hunting near Pensacola Florida? I have family there and it would be nice to get some hunting in while visiting.

Most of the places to hunt around pensacola are Public management areas including Escambia river management area,Blackwater river  management area and Eglin AFB are the three biggest and closest to Pensacola. Not sure about Escambia river haven't ever hunted but Blackwater and Eglin hold birds in places but with any public land the first few weeks there are tons of people in the woods. Birds are not everywhere but can be found with a little scouting.

I have lived in this area my whole life and have killed birds in two of the three places mentioned, but I have a lot of private land to hunt now but still get after those public land birds a few times a year. You can find maps and regulatons on the Fwc web site for the Wma and Jackson Guard.

Thanks. I've heard about blackwater but I wasn't sure if it held any birds. I don't know if I will make it this year but another Florida thread got me thinking about it. I'd really love to have a chance at an Osceola.

Haven't hunted it myself, but a buddy of mine hunts eglin religiously, and kills birds every year. I don't know what part of it he hunts but its a big place.

Eglin is hard hunting and you need to do some research on where to start. It's a big place

That's a bummer. Doesn't really matter though. I really just like to hunt new ground.

I live about an hour north of Pensacola in Alabama. Most people there come to Alabama to hunt as there are more turkeys here. There are turkes on Conechuh National Forest just across the line in Alabama about 40-50 miles northeast of Pensacola. Tough hunting but there are birds there. Rattlesnakes also.
If you go there, look for an ground that's been burned.
There are also birds closer to Tallahasee but that is a good drive from Pensacola.
