POI Question when sighting in a scope

I'm reading others say sight your scope using low brass shells to get your poi   Afterwards, use the shell u will be hunting with to make final adjustments at 40 yds.  I've tried doing this and when I shoot the magnum shell, it will shoot way high on target. Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong?

Sight in with what you are going to use. Some will use low brass shells to avoid all the recoil, problem is turkey loads are in most cases at full charge in which case your velocity is much faster and depending on what oz load can cause a big difference in poi. If recoil is a issue for you use or borrow a led sled or bulls bag.

The same thing happened to me on my 20ga. I ended up just having to sight in using my turkey shell. It's expensive but it got it dead on. What shell are you shooting out of curiosity? The Fed HW is what shot high out of mine.

I just use the low brass loads to get close, then use what I'm going to hunt with. It does save a few bucks but you have to confirm with your intended hunt load.

What scope?  I use a Simmons Pro-Diamond.  I started using dove shells at 12.5 yards, each click is 1/16".  Once I got it hitting dead on there I went to 25 yards, each click is 1/8".  Then I went to 40 and shot my turkey shell.  I was pretty much dead on.  I am not sure what adjustments your scope is at different yards, but that is what the Pro-Diamond was.  Think once I was sighted at 12.5 yards I did not touch adjustment on it again, but not 100% sure about that.  Good luck.

As stated above. 12 12.5 yds. That'll get you very close.

I've never had that problem, just a little tweaking , but never way off.

I'm using a Nikon 2x7x32 scope shooting the Nitro 4x5x7 and hevi-13 #6 with a rhino choke.
Both shells shot very high.  Would like to try other combinations.
