I have 1300, 870 20ga, and I just got a like new 1995 870 12ga special purpose in mossy oar green leaf.

Looking for info on load choke combos with 21@ barrel 870 12 ga.

A friend passed along info to me that it likes Jelly head and hevi shot chokes.
What are you using and prefer with this set up?

I just purchased a Jelly head .660 for it and gobble dot mag pro series sights for it.
I will more than likely be shooting long beard 6's since my Winchester likes them.

When I said "very particular" lol I was meaning just interested in responses directly related to 870 12ga 21" barrel. Thanks for any info in advance.

Rem Man

I got the same gun, and it's unreal with longbeards 6 with a 660 jelly head and a pattern master code black!!!!   I did find mine shoots great on a dirty barrell!

Don't overlook the Hevi-Shot .662 choke and Magnum Blend in that gun.  My Remmy 21" barreled shotgun loves that combination. :OGturkeyhead:

Longshanks

I shoot a rem 870 wingmaster 21" bbl.

Kicks .655  Win XX 3/2/6's

Kicks .655  Win LB 3" 6's     (211 in a 10 @ 40)

Indian Creek .665 if you are going to shoot Hevi shot.

340_Dart

My 21" 870 shoots a good even pattern averaging in the 150s in the 10" @ 40yds with long beard #6s and a .660 jellyhead.
It averages in the 120s with #5s.

I'd suggest 3" Hevi-13 shells with 2 oz. of #7 shot and the SSX turkey choke.

Thanks,
Clark

I have the same exact gun and shoot ssx .643 and magblends also shots 2oz load of #7 hevi shot extremely well just like the speed and pattern of magblends for hunting.

SpitNDrumN

I tried the ssx in my 1300. I didn't like any of the loads that I liked. It blew my mag blends apart past 30. It likes straight 7's a lot. But after shooting a gobbler at 37 steps with straight 7's hevi 13 and after skinning his head out I found shot all over the side of his head that I shot just under the skin. I lost faith in straight 7's hevi shot that day. That was just my experience.

I forgot to mention that longbeard 6s also did well in the ssx I think they would do better in a 655 or so constriction.

When I was looking for a new turkey "smoker" last year , I was leaning toward the 870 for its reputation, and because I already owned a Rem-choke Undertaker .665 and hoped to find a suitable load for that combo.

I searched the "Pattern Pics" section of this forum, and liked what I was seeing from Heavy 13-3"-#7's.

I bought the 870 Express 21". Light to carry and easy to handle in the woods.

I polished the barrel per info I found here as well.

After patterning the rig I was confident to 50 yds.

I took two birds last season, at 38 and 44 long steps. I am very happy with my choice.  :z-winnersmiley:

Got 870 12ga. 21" barrel. About a 1988 model. Standard Rem choke Superfull with TSS 9s is devastating!  300+ in 10" at 40.
It's one of my favorite guns.

Hevi-13 2 oz of #7 out of a Hevi Shot Choke is what I'm using in mine.  Mine would not pattern well until I went with the Hev-13 shells.  Clark got me on track with this combo & now it's a killer.
