Yes that right. You can get in some rough positions hunting. I have hunted this bird 5 or 6 times. He would gobble on the roost good and some on the ground but would get his hens and two Jake's and slip off silent. This morning he gobbled good on the roost and when he hit the ground he was hammering. I thought he was by himself by the way he was gobbling. The leaves were thick so i closed the distents and gave him soft yelps and clucks, right off i could tell he was coming and closed the distents fast. He was about 70 yards it sounded like but i couldn't see him, i gave him some clucks and excited low yelps and he moved to my left still gobbling good. By then he was close but behind a bushy sugar maple, i purred and clucked softly on my mouth call and caught movement to the left of my gun barrell. By then i had been holding my sp Rem 20 for a long time in a awkward postion, i see him partly behind a medium size tree, he stretches his neck and head out and gobbles and i let him have a load of Tss 9's. As i did the scope got me from holding the gun so long and leaning forward. I couldn't believe it in all my years of hunting it has never happened before.lol  19 lbs. 9 3/4 in beard and 1in spurs.

Haha, I'd take a punch in the eye any day to kill a nice longbeard! Congrats

Yep, called a nice long beard in the next morning and missed what should have been a easy shot, i cut at him and he stretched his head up and i think i jerked the trigger. Still got a good cut and a bump to show for the other one. lol :z-dizzy: :z-dizzy:

I had a gobbler at my 7 o'clock last year. I got a bloody nose from that shot. Totally worth it.

Congrats! Those awkward positions can get you at times.
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!
