Kingsbury is a really rough go this year,I dont know if it was the hard winter or what but the birds just are not there like they used to be.
I had a draw opening weekend and never heard a bird and only saw 3 hens in 2 days of hunting.
The weather was not the best but I have killed a few birds there thru the years and know my way around pretty well and something is going on and I am not sure what it is,maybe it was just a bad couple of days.
You might be better off looking elsewhere, but thats just my opinion and you know what thats worth.

Northern part preferably, Looked at Lasalle area, Kankakee as well, these are  all within an hour and a half, where is hoosier National?

Dtrkyman

Not sure If it is worth the draw areas, not sure I would get in?  Can you hunt until sunset at hoosier?

alclark2

HnF is at the south end of the state.

So it seems hoosier national is the place to go, not too bad of a drive so I may look into it, any place to start on the northern end? May bring the mountain bike!  Are the hunting hours Half hour before to sunset or 1pm?

alclark2

I'm not sure of the hours at HNF. that would probably be the place to go to get away from the crowds. In my experience you need lots of land to get away from pressure.

May check out Monroe lake area, this is not a reserved hunt area correct? I saw Brown county state park was.  Anyone have any tips on an area to check out that is not a registered area?

Thanks

Getting no where online and on the phone, anyone recommend a starting point?

alclark2

Go to in.gov/dnr/fishwild     There will be a properties link on the left I believe. You'll have to go through individual properties to see the regulations. Look at the state forests, reservoir, FWA, state recreational areas, and I'm probably forgetting something. I'm not putting any info about the state properties on the internet where anyone can read it. Use the Monroe example. The land around the lake is probably legal to buy a tag and hunt on. Go to that link. Click on properties. Go to parks/reservoirs. (Whatever it's under) and read up on the rules for the property. Look at the map that should babe on there and find a spot to hunt. Look it up on google maps, yahoo maps, mapquest or whatever service to get an idea of the terrain.  Good luck!

Been looking at all that info the last two days, I can appreciate you not advertising any locations, I am heading down to Morgan Monroe state forest and if I can not find any birds there I will run down to the HNF!  weather looks good next week, maybe things will pop!

alclark2

I've camped down there in the forest. They have a good number of birds killed in those counties. Good luck.
