Breakfast Turkey
April 23, 2014, 10:45:34 AM
Went out this morning after yesterday's disaster. Yesterday I went out and set up in a field they visit daily and as light unfolded I could see they had moved to the lower field and when they roost down there they always shoot to the upper fields. So I just set tight and listened to Em leave my life. Lol.
Well on the way out yesterday I bumped them and they flew back up to the field I was just hoping they were roosted in . Fast forward this morning. Got in early this morning just took my feeder hen and looker hen because when the group would see my Jake they'd head the other way . So at light I could see Em all roosted right where I want Em so just as they started to pitch from the tree I gave them a quick fly down cackle and a few yelps and lay ed back and watched Em for about 10 mins. And about that time olé boss hen starts cutting me off so I just started mimicking her for every note and she wanted no part of it and started to leave , by then I'm like noooo not again and they dissappear for a second and out pops the strutter and starts heading my way. Gobble. Game on and from 150 yards I watched him strut and spit and drum with the whole flock in toe and at 25 yards Game Over . Love it but that's my second bird in three days my season is over. Till next year. God I love turkey hunting.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons. However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
