I have a slight distance problem.. but the eye glass place said probably not enough for Lasik. Of course they would say that because they want me to continue to buy glasses forever.
Anyway.. I tried every type of contact lens in the world...and I hate them. Just for reference, I wear a -1.0 for both eyes (whatever this means)  My understanding is this isn't that bad at all. And the glasses are just as aggravating, get fogged up, etc. I would like to dump them as well.

So my question.. can I get Lasik?  I hunt a lot, all seasons...so distance is real important to me. Also, what side effect are there? will my close vision be worse? I thought I heard someone say there is a "trade off"  Finally, what is the typically costs for this?  Again.. I just don't know much about this stuff.

Wish i could help. I have been told that Lasik will not help me. I tore the retina in my left eye and had what they call a buckle to correct it.Then I had cataracts in both eyes and had lens replacements to correct that.As if that weren't enough I fell and tore the retina in my right eye in 5 places.Near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other.Wearing glasses sucks but I praise God that i can still see well enough to hunt and drive.Good luck .

You won't really know if you can have the procedure done until you have a consultation with a Lasik provider.  After you've met with someone and they make their recommendation, do some more research.  There is a lot.  Like you I disliked wearing glasses for similar reasons.  I just had it done 4 weeks ago and I wore glasses for 2 years because I developed an a astigmatism.  Now I'm seeing 20/15 in both eyes.  It takes about 3 weeks for you to really notice the changes.  I had all laser correction which cost $1800/eye and I live in MN.  All laser means the cut is with a laser vs a blade.  The corrections are all done with laser.  So it's the cut that is different.  Good luck.

I had it done 5 years ago, best $4400 I've ever spent.  I only had glasses for about 8 years and I was also astigmatic.  Didn't like having to spent twice the money for toric contact lenses.  I also work for the fire dept which involves getting up in the middle of the night often.  I had the all laser procedure.  I believe that's all they offer now.

I was one of the unlucky 1% that had to get an eye redone.  My right eye regressed a year later but since I got the premium package it was all covered.  I went through TLC for my surgery, they are very reputable, the same machine did Tiger Woods eyes.

My wife just dit this about a week ago and finally had a good day today.  I'm worried about her and the $3000 I spent.  She was negative 6&7.  I hope that since hers was so bad that they are just taking a little longer to come around.
Others that went to this same place had great luck, but their right wasn't as bad.

Had it done 9 years ago. I was -6.25 in contacts, wore glasses or contacts for 27 years. Its the best money I ever spent, and would have it done again tomorrow. I believe they want you to be at least -1.50, buy you could have It done if you want it.

I'm petrified of Lasik.  Just reading the topic title made my eyes water.

I was in glasses and contacts for about 14 years before having the Lasik surgery in 2009. I was a -1.75. The morning after my procedure I was 20/15. I am now 20/15 in my dominant eye and 20/20 in the other. Best money i have spent. My only regret was waiting so long to have it done.

A friend of mine had it done, but they put implants in his eyes.. He is really happy with his results, but still has to wear reading glasses in dim light. He is 58 and had it done about 3 yrs ago

As said, you will need to get a consultation with a Lasik specialist to see what can be done for you. My wife had the procedure done probably 6 or 7 years ago and has been very happy with it. She does get halos around bright lights at night, which is a common side effect, but it's something she has gotten used to and she finds the benefits of the procedure well worth that small tradeoff. I don't remember what the going rate was at the time she had it done, but we are in NY and took a mini-vacation up to Montreal to have it done there. Cost was far less than what you would pay in the US at the time.

Had mine done 13+ years ago, near sighted :icon_thumright: No question the best move I ever made. No more prescription glasses/sun glasses, contacts etc. My only concern was my focal length, didn't want it to fall right at the dash board length. Perfect, although you may need cheaters when dimly lit reading a menu. I just turned 66, at night in the rain seemed a bit "fuzzy". I decided to have them checked for a pair of glasses for night driving in the rain. Went to a optometrist, he was shocked I still had 20/20 left and 20/30 right. He understood the night issue (very common at my age), he is a hunter as well. No problem setting me up with a pair. Asked him if he could "twink" them a bit, man o man binocular vision now  I ware them hunting  :icon_thumright:. Purchase a few pairs of cheaters (cheap money at Wally world) just in case. Even then only need them for very close work "sometimes". My suggestion have it done, you will not regret it.  :happy0064:

Best $3600 I spent!  It's been 1 year.  I am now 20/15.  I can now just get up and go hunting in the spring now!
