Sounds overly simple but I had a friends 835 do same thing....I turned the barrel retaining nut about a half turn tighter and solved problem.

I doubt shells are bad.

My 935 misfired one spring morning with a H13 3.5" 2.25oz 5 on a bird I'd hunted 4 days. He came in on a rope and when I pulled the trigger it clicked, He gobbled and I cried. I nearly wrapped it around a tree. The primer was dented and the shell fired that afternoon when I tried it again to see if it would shoot. Only time it ever happened to me

the barrel nut on the gun was tight, no concerns there.  been super busy at work setting pumps for one of our customers and haven't had time to get another box and run them thru.  will keep whoever is following posted

Had one old boy at 24 yards and good as tagged and plucked when gun went click. My nightmare went two more clicks however as I shucked two more shells through while he pogo'd off putting. May well have been magazine cap, can't say for sure but I don't recall it being loose when I disassembled things. Broke the gun and trigger group down COMPLETELY when I got home. The firing pin was coated with black burnt powder and the morning of the misfire it was raining, things were fairly wet, gun and all. Always felt that was the culprit. Winchester XRHD's were what I was shooting then. Hasn't happened before or since and don't think I could survive it so well again if it did.

had a similar situation happen to me about 6 years ago but in my case the shell went off but it had wet powder or something. Sounded like a m80 going of under water and I watched pellet come out the gun about as fast as a person could throw them and needless to say he got the heck out of there. I could have ran through a brick wall I was so mad. The shell was a 10ga Remington 2 1/4 #4.

I doubt it's the shells, we would have heard more complaints by now.

Sounds like something is up with the firing pin and/or firing pin spring.

Maybe it's gummed up with oil?  Some oils will turn into a sticky mess over time, like a plaque, and you can get light primer strikes.

Good luck!

That is usually the nightmare I have a time or two every year about now. Only difference is, in my dream the pellets roll out the end of the barrel!

Yeah it sucked pretty bad. The hull was all melted on the outside and it smelled like burnt hair. I still have it with all the hulls I have killed turkeys with. Now I look back and it kinda funny but at the time I was sick.

I got a new 835 last year for a gift and when I got ready to shoot it with some old Remington nitro's a buddy had, it would go click and dent the primer but his 11-87 would shoot them and to say the least I was not happy! I took it home took it apart and cleaned it good and shot a full box of low brass 7 1/2 super speeds through it as fast as i could and since then it hasn't missed a beat. But don't think it didn't it didn't cross my mind opening morning as a bird I had hunted for two years was on his way! But when he got there it went bang and he flopped! I ended killing three last year and it shot so I hope it just needed a good cleaning and shooting.
