Remington barrels and machining marks

Is it a common occurrence for newer 870 barrels to have more noticeable machining marks than older ones? I bought a new 870 20 ga w/26" barrel last year and I recently noticed that it has quite a few obvious machining marks in the barrel than my other 870's (which are all 10-20 years old). So my question is, has the quality of the newer barrels gone down when compared to the older ones or did I just get a bad one? I took a closer look to at my older ones and the bores on them are smooth as silk. I polished the 20 ga barrel yesterday and the marks didn't appear to get any better. Is there anything I can do to smooth em out or is it not as big of a deal as I think it is?

The overall quality of EVERY Remmington gun has gone down in the last decade.  Just a sad fact.

I would certainly agree with that. The current quality of finish on them leaves a lot to be desired.

I've thought about it but not sure it's that bad. If you look down the barrel from the chamber end to the muzzle it looks fine but if you tilt the barrel slightly you can see the rings about 3"-4" or so apart all the way down. The barrels on my other gun don't change whether you tilt em or not. I thought polishing may help if but if it did I didn't notice it.

My supermag I got last year is the same way.  Granted it shoots good for me but there were marks I could not polish out.  Otherwise I love the gun.  It was made in 2013.

I bought a new 870 SM last year and the barrel had allot of machine markings. I took it to my gunsmith and he used polishing tools. Had to start with a fairly rough grit and work down to finer grit. Long process but when I got the gun back it shot my best Pb numbers ever. Not that expensive either , $30 or so.
