The Nitros finally come the other evening and I just had to try them.  The wind was blowing 20mph+ so we headed to Tn. where there is a huge barn to shoot out of.  The temp was around 37 deg and the barn would only let us shoot at a measured 38 yds.  All counts were in a 10"circle with a dirty barrel and an IC .555.

5 shells is was I had so here is the #'s:
174
177
204
224
239

I was pleased but 174-239 was a pretty huge gap.

I wonder how the 24" would compare to the 26" as far as patterns go?

most will say the longer one patterns better but I like the 24 to hunt with.

jtharpe

that is a big swing in the number of hits.wonder if nitros are that much different from shell to shell?

Hardtime_NC

No I didn't clean it at all.  The highest number came from the last shot.

Looks like your gun is like one of my 835s it loves a dirty barrel the more you shoot it the better it shoots. Now i have another one that you have to clean after ever shot. I also have a 870 that don't care dirty or clean.

jtharpe

maybe I should have left mine dirty :begging:it just shot the best it has ever done, and I thought for sure it would do better after I polished it today :bike2:

Hardtime_NC

I really don't understand the numbers.  Heres the way they fell shot one through five:

Shot one: 204
Shot two: 224
Shot three:  174
Shot four:  177
Shot five:  239

I do have a friend that has a built turkey shoot gun that likes to be very dirty.  It will not shoot worth nothing with a clean barrel.
