Mossberg Facory Barrel Porting ?

I was wondering how well Mossberg' s barrel porting from the factory does against other shotgun manufactures ? How well does it reduce recoil ? Specifically on a Mossberg 500 in 12 and 20 gauge shooting 3 inch turkey loads. Should I get a limbsaver slip on recoil pad to reduce recoil ? What is the recoil of a 12 gauge like on a 500 with the barrel porting ?

Do not know how much the porting helps with recoil.  I think it is supposed to but one of the main things it does is help with muzzle jump to make target acquisition quicker after a fired shot.  Definitely put a limbsaver on it or a pistol grip stock.  One of those will help more with recoil that the porting.  I would go with the custom fit limbsaver over the slip on.  Looks better and easy to do without lengthening the LOP.

Limbsaver has templates on their website you can print to make sure you purchase the correct recoil pad for your gun.  There is also a cross referencing link.

I put a traditional pistol grip on my 835 from ATI.  Good luck.

Others may have different experiences but I never have noticed a difference in the recoil of ported and non-ported barrels. Porting may keep the muzzle from jumping as much and ported barrels are louder but other than that, I see no advantage.

As far as the porting on Mossberg barrels, the ports on my 930 are well done, no sharp edges on the interior, etc. My other Mossbergs are non-ported.

The Limbsaver slip on pads are excellent products. I use them on several guns.

I hope that helps some.

I've got an 835 ported and a 935 non-ported.  I prefer the non-ported barrel just because it makes cleaning easier.
