What's the going rate? Let's say 3 days, food and lodging included its nothing fancy but very comfortable. Plenty of birds. Guided and non guided options.... What have y'all paid? From my research it looks like about $1000 for 2 birds.

Your number is about right.  Most are really 2.5 days of hunting, you leave after lunch on day 3.
At least in the Hill Country.  Check on prices in the panhandle region and OK.  They seem to be a bit better overall.  They are all proud of their birds tho...

I have the opportunity to kind of spearhead a deal in north tx panhandle, close to the ok line- lots of birds. The landowner is a deer guy and wants me to reign in turkeys for him .... We'll see.

Sounds like it could be a sweet deal.  Take you bino's and go scout 'em when they are in winter flocks.  I"ve hunted western OK along the Canadian River and they have some impressive turkey numbers.

That's the only minor problem. My binos aren't good enough to see them from Georgia. LoL did see a flock a couple weeks ago on a visit though.

One tip on Rios in that country, protect the roosts.
Those birds may use the same tree or small group of trees for years or even decades.
You want to hunt their travel routes and strutting areas away from the roosts.
Bust a roost and you may well run them off your property forever.

Yeah that's always a rule with our Oklahoma trips. And it's easy to see why when there are only 2 trees for roosting in the county.
