Hello, i have a brend new 870 right out of the box that i was installing a set of adjustable fiber optic sights on. When i got done i was looking down the barrel admiring the sights when i noticed the barrel looks like it curves to the left drasticly! The top of the reciever is drilled and tapped and it looks like if you had a scope mounted it would be facing way right according to where the end of the barrel is pointing! I haven had a chance to shoot it because it is raining and they are calling for it tomorrow also. Could this be my eyes playing tricks on me, is there a way i can check to see if it is infact straight the way its supposed to be??.

Put a straight edge along the barrel " a carpenters square or level will work" . make sure its long enough to run the full length of the barrel. If the barrel is straight put it against the side of the receiver.  It could be that the receiver  its not drilled straight giving the appearance of a bent barrel. keep in mind the chamber end of the barrel is gonna be a little wider than the muzzle end. If it has a vent rib the rib could be off a little also giving it the bent barrel appearance .

I have a great picture of what i am talking about, i managed to put it in the gallories section but i just cant figure out how to put it with my post.

Songdog, if the barrel is bent you should be able to tell by looking down the inside of the barrel.  Also check the fiber optic sights you put on.  They may not be just right.  Also like another poster said the vent may not be on right.  Keep us posted.

I layed a straight edge against the reciever on both sides and measured the distance between the straight edge and the barrel at the muzzle, i am getting almost 7/16 difference from the right side and left, i shot the gun and i am hitting 8-10 inches to the right at 35 yds from poa to poi with the adjustable sights bottomed out to the left!! I think its going to my local smith to verify my findings and ship it back that is rediculous on a brand new gun! There sure wasnt nothing wrong with the 100 dollar bills i handed over when i bought it!!

Yea it looks like that one's going back to the manufacturer.  Can't understand why these get out of the factory undetected.

I agree with your finding's it's bent. It amazes me these companies lets stuff like that go. Please keep us posted on how Remington takes care of this for you.

Sorry about your hassle! I was hoping that Remington had improved in their quality control since the last one I bought, but it appears that they have not. Surely they will take care of the problem for you. Keep us posted.

I had one too new from factory with bent barrel - just send it back and buy a Mossberg 835 if you like the pump action thumpers...Good Luck

Well its going back! big surprise there! instead of just takeing it back to the shop where I bought I took it to my gunsmith and had him check it out and get some measurements that way he could get ahold of Remington and describe the problem in detail to them, which he did. They are sending him a shipping lable and told him they would take care of it for me. We will see I guess, shure hope I get it back before next turkey season!! I will keep you all updated.
