Long story short....I took my 7 year old out this a.m. to try to fill her tag. Sitting by 4 a.m. 4:30 hear deer walking 30-40 yds to my left just over hill. Birds quiet not saying much. Two Toms pitch land 20 yds down from us. Making their way up get to 12 yds.. She is on strutter, he is  to. Gun slips a bit, bird catches movement they get hinky. Start to putt, I stop them as they are heading down hill. She shoots misses, birds back into trees. Birds nervous, start to calm down, gobbling bird behind me with hen. Hen pitches, gobblling bird pitches with 40 yds behind us...then BOOOOOOOM. it was 2 guys this a.m. not a deer. Other birds pitch, one 50 yds downhill into open area behind thicket. He is still gobbling. I hear noise behind me, look its the knuckleheads. One waves says GOOD LUCK, WHILE BBIRD IS STILL GOBBLING! His buddy looks for bird he missed. They leave. Bird still gobbling 20 minutes later it starts to pour, we leave. No bird

They had to see my truck, they still pushed in, they knew the general vicinity of where we shot and they STILL SHOT IN MY AND MY 7 YEAR OLDS DIRECTION, JUST 30 TO 40 YDS BEHIND US. MIND YOU THEY WERE AT MY 8-9 O.CLOCK. BIRDS WERE BEHIND OUR TREE.  if I had a caller behind me he would have been in the line of fire

Tail Feathers

So after your daughter shot that close to them they didn't leave?  And still shot a little later???? ???

Wow.  I'd be torked. >:(
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

Exactly tail feathers. Yes my daughter shot. Within 5 minutes they shot at a bird the pitched and landed 30-40 yards behind us. Reason I know is as soon as they shot I looked around the tree and saw the bird turn and hightail it.

Then they got up a walked 20 yds behind us. One waves says good luck one looks for bird all the while a bird is gobbling 50 yds downhill in a clearing behind a thicket.

Normally I woyld have ripped into him but didn't want to scare my daughter anymore than their shot did.

A friend told me this week about something that happened to a friend of his. He had a bird walking to him and then BOOM from behind him and dead bird. A fellow was behind and a little above him with a black powder rifle. They guy shot OVER him to kill the bird he was calling to. They rifleman even admitted he had seen him sitting there. WOW! That's the kind of guy who needs to never get to hunt again.

Knuckleheads. That's mighty polite of you. Yeah.i know this is a family site, but I can think of a bunch more appropriate names for them fellas. Glad to hear you were not shot. Some guys just don't have even a tiny bit of integrity, and that's a shame

If I was by myself or with a buddy it may have happened, but having my little girl with me I was #1 thankful that neither of us took any pellets #2 it was a tremendous lesson in ethics. I hope she learned today about knowing where your target vs. other people and that if you do end up close to someone that under no circumstances do you pull the trigger.

Sorry about your hunt doublebarrel, I admire your restraint for your daughters sake

Back in the day I would have taken that fellows gun and wrapped it around a tree...... or at least taken a beatin' while trying to!

You definately have more restraint than me, I'm sure I would have seen RED.  Sorry to hear about more of these low life **********************.  Best of luck next time and I hope you can get your little girl on another bird.

Thanks for the kind words guys. fortunately for me she still wants to get out tomorrow if shes not too tired. Getting up @ 2:45 a.m. is tough on a 7 year old. Got a little better idea how to set up on them.

Exactly my thoughts......

I don't have kids myself but that happens while I have a youth hunter out I'm walking straight out without a word and getting a License plate number, calling game warden and cops.
