My dad and I have the opportunity to leave today and go hunt Ft.Leonard Wood.

Hows the turkey hunting there?  How pressured are the birds/how heavily turkey hunted is it? Are the birds the typical Eastern that Im used to that are fairly silent, or are they a little more loud mouthed?

Thanks,

If the turkeys where you hunt in Georgia gobble about like they do here in Alabama then you should prepare yourself. You should hear turkeys gobble like you have never heard them before. From my experience they gobble in the evening pretty good which is uncommon here. You can't hunt them in the evening, but you should be able to roost them fairly easily, which will give you an advantage in the morning. Don't think that just because they gobble so well that they are so much easier to kill. Those turkeys have issues of their own.

I live south of there and our birds are hammering it. yes they are easterns and they are very loud mouthed. Right now they are henned up everywhere but alot of people are whacking them out. They are getting in their face on the roost and having great success. The ones that hang back a ways and call are missing out. The gobblers are getting with the hens and shutting up. Some of the hens are starting to nest but more are still hanging out in fields, all day. Stick with em and make them play. Good luck

I'm not sure how they have ft lost in the woods laid out now, but once upon a time they might have certain areas closed off depending on what is going on those days as far as the training. I think we hunted like areas 23, 24, 25. Something in the 20's. you will find them.

Appreciate it.  Weather has been miserable with rain the last 48 hours.  Hunters here are incredibly disrespectful.  Guys will come in on your area and ruin your hunt fairly often.  A lot of guys drive there truck around all day, pull over, crow call like 50 times, then hit the box about 20 times, hop back in the truck, drive 100 yards, repeat.

Trying to find some areas that aren't hit much, but the amount of pressure is unreal.

you may wanna try Paddy Creek conservation area, ive talked to some guys from mississippi a couple days ago and they said there were lots of birds. id rather deal with guys actually after turkeys than the guys "hunting" at the fort. good luck
