If you've done a SLAM, what was your favorite?

After getting the GRAND, I've repeated on certain species and not on others. A friend asked me why today, so it got me thinking. I don't know that I really have a favorite, but there were aspects of hunting each one that I enjoyed more than others. Each one presents it's own set of challenges and rewards.

Which is your favorite?

I think my favorite was the Rio in KS.  The hunting was great there, birds were very responsive to calling.  I've only ever killed one of each besides the Eastern which I've killed several.  Any turkey hunt is fun for me though.

I have 2 3/4 slams (haven't wanted to man up and pay the ridiculous price for an Osceola hunt).

I love merriams and the countryside they populate.

To me they each had their own specialty to them. They were all fun but just a little different. I think it's the terrain and atmosphere that makes each special. The mountain Merriams is so much more different than the eastern and the Osceola had this odd mysteriousness about it in the swamp land. I hunt Rios where I live so I am more used to it. They gobble so good. But to me there was just something about the Eastern. There gobble sounded like they could eat the Rios I hunt every year. If I had to pick one place to hunt for my last turkey of my life I would hunt a hardwood bottom in MS. I love a hardwood bottom for huntin turkeys. It don't get no better than that. I think they are all great and can't wait to to do any of them again.

Nothing like an Osceola sneaking through the swamp and palmettos to your set-up on a foggy morning.

Those Eastern gobblers can sure shake the woods at daylight.

Watching a Rio cross across an open field in full strut, gobbling all the way in.

Having a Merriam's sound like he's miles away, only to be on the other side of the ridge.

My fondest memory of any trip may be of my one Merriam's hunt.  But it wasn't my easiest hunt.
I love me some hard gobbling Rios.  They love a lot of calling and I love to call them.
The Osceola was hard won on public land and the people were awesome there.
Hard to beat a heavy Eastern in the back of you vest.

I have to say hunting Merriams has to be my favorite.  There's nothing like finding and killing a gobbler on thousands and thousands of acres of public National Forest land.  The quest can be extremely daunting when I venture to new country, but when it all comes together it's something really special to me.  p.s.  Like stated in previous posts, I'll hunt then anytime, anywhere!

Like others have said there all special and I treasure the memories of each hunt and each bird.  That said though if I had to pick, it would be a toss up between the Merriam and The Osceola.  The merriam because of the country the live in and the the pretty white tipped fans.  The Osceola, because it's a harder to get bird and the country you hunt them in is so unique.

I have to admit that i love chasing these wv easterns,which i've done for over 30yrs,but i find myself wandering to other places more and more each year.I'm very lucky to have a good friend in florida so i can hunt osceolas when i want,same goes for merriams in ne,but the rios are something that i have really wanted to pursue more.I've killed a few but just have'nt been able to find that certain place to hunt them that keeps drawing me back year after year.Ithink i could really like hunting them.
