What is happening in Oklahoma?  Has the weather made a mess of the early season? Heading to the northwest corner of the state next week, and getting antsy.....lol.

I'd be interested to know as well.  I will be heading south and west of Oklahoma City to hunt.

The consensus is that the birds are behind schedule. Bird numbers in SW OK have really taken a beating with the drought..lots of jakes and fewer mature birds overall. NW, bird numbers are better, but as of last week, they were just starting to break up. Gobbling as been decent on the roost, but slow during other times of the day.

Thanks....  great report. Last year, I noticed a lot of hunters from the SE part of the state hunting in the nearest places they could find. This put a lot of pressure on the public lands that were closest to the SE. Add that to the drought issues, and it's a wonder any birds have survived. Again, thanks for the info... hopefully, by the time I get to the area next Thursday, the birds will be kicking it fairly well.

I got home from work this morning, started working on a decoy pattern and my father in law called and told me to grab a camera and head out back.
This lady was walking, went back in grabbed a mouth call, did a couple yelps and some purrs. She got on top on that dirt and stayed there for an hour. Managed to walk up to within 20 yards and snap some pics.
Blessings,
Rick

I am going to guess that she has a nest nearby..... keep your eye out for her to return daily. Nice pic too.
