The 835 doesn't kick that bad!!!!!! LOL. Turkey call magazine Nov/Dec 2003 article by Dave Henderon.
Gun                     Weight                  Load                  Recoil
Mossberg 835          7lbs 12oz              3.5" 2.25oz           60.3 ft lbs
Average 12 ga
pump                     7lbs                    3" 2oz                 43 ft lbs
458 Win Mag           12lbs                   600 gr bullet         58.1 ft lbs
Average 20 ga          7lbs                    3" 1 5/16 oz         27.2 ft lbs

The 3.5" 835 turkey load puts out 60.3 ft lbs of recoil; more than suggested load for ELEPHANTS.

Recoil from my 835 is significant. Id shoot several guns first.

If I were you I would checkout Stoeger 3500.

Did you also see their article on hunting with a 20 gauge?  ;)

Once again, to me any way, they do not kick that bad.  :)

835 at walmart you wont be dissappointed, also I've never thought about the recoil on my 835 as being terrible or unbearable.  I'm only 5'7" 135lbs too.  The gun that I think has the most recoil I own is a bolt mossberg 695 shooting 1oz copper solids that things plain kicks.

heath42

I am by no means worried about the kick! Just want the best bang for my buck! (pun intended)

Setting up is the biggest torture. After the third shell you can't give the rest an honest trigger pull. Lol. When I have shot at a turkey I never heard the gun go off or felt the recoil. For the price you should look around. A new one won't cost much more. Check Academy and Wal-Mart. They usually have great prices

More than likely the 3 1/2 hevi 13 #7 2.25. Seems like everyone recommends them

PMed you!  Those will do great in that gun.  Deep clean the barrel.  I like 6s but those 7s will do more than enough.

Here is the article on deep cleaning.  It is all I did to mine and never worried about polishing.
