Strut shok failure

went to sight in the new gun today and used some new strut shok federals to get the optic sighted in at 20 yards and had this happen. just a click then heard what sounded like someone throwing rice at the target board. waited a minute opened the action to have powder poor out of it shell is open so I take the barrel off and the wad is stuck in the choke powder felt like it had been soaked in oil ? anyone else have anything like this happen

Never seen anything like that before. Must have been oil from their loading presses. Get in touch with federal cartrige and these guys will make it right.

Wow! we were talking about these over on the lead forum.What were the lot # on those?I'm sure if you call federal they will make it right.Having a wad get  stuck in the barrel is scarey stuff for sure.Glad you caught it and didn't get injured.That next shot woulda been bad news!....ward

I have had a few shells do the same thing but it was because of wet powder. I was waterfowl hunting and the shells got wet. Only good thing is when you shot one of those it makes a very unique noise.

Lot number is 5U-41QN730 or atleast that's what's printed on the flap of the box and I have seen wet shells do something like this before this one just sounded like a dry fired shotgun except for the pellets sprinkling the target at 20 yards

What happened is the primer ignited the wad down the bore , and the powder did not ignite  -- call up the maker and demand more free shells - they will send them - the last thing they need is a safety issue


BTW -- Ive seen it happen plenty of times with duck guns shooting shells that got wet - by the time I was 8 years old we were well trained to just about punch a guy in the head to get a shot gun out of a unknowing hunters hands - If a hunter cycles out the first wet hull and fires off a second shell with the first shotcup/charge it will likely blow the gun up and worse  -the typical scenario is when a good size flock of ducks flew into the spread and 4-5 guys are banging away 10-15 shells and one goes "pop" its like someone stepped on a land mine  - everyone is screaming -  STOP STOP STOP till someone figures out what went wrong  and who has the dud
