I posted this several months ago, but I guess with deer season was apporaching and most didnt want to discuss turkey guns at the time...
My situation is this...I have an opportunity to buy a Mossberg at an unbelievable price, and I already have two 835's a standard and a tactical. I want to go to a 935 turkey pro and build the ultimate semi thumper. I plan on extensively working the bbl, trigger job, possibly port, FFII and Nitro shells. My question is, I have heard from some that the gas chamber in the 935's have issues on ballooning or cause internal issues from the pounding of the Nitros. Anyone have cycling issues or any internal issues with their 935 after months of cycling 3-1/2 Nitros through it??

I've owned a 935 for several years and have put a variety of shells though it. Most have been 3" turkey loads. I shot a number of 3.5" shells when I was evaluating turkey chokes, shortly after I first got it. I do not shoot Nitro shells so can't be of any help to you there.

My 935 has been totally reliable. It even cycles 2.75" shells consistently. My barrel was pretty dirty but after I deep cleaned it, it was shiny and slick. The trigger is surprisingly good with no work on it at all.

My observations are that the gun overall is a little heavy for some people and is also noticeably muzzle heavy. I got quite a bit of cheek slap but a neoprene sleeve pretty much tempered it. The factory recoil pad is pretty good but I use a Shooter's Friend for bench work.

My gun patterns exceptionally well with 3" Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of #6 shot. I get good even patterns with no large holes at 40 yards. The Hevi-13 choke does and excellent job as does the SSX. I'd be happy with either one of them in the field.

I know I did not address you question about the Nitro shells but based upon my experience with the 935, I'd recommend it to anyone. I you were looking for a 3" gun, I'd also highly recommend the Mossberg 930.

Thanks,
Clark

Get you some HV13 6's or 7's and a SumToy, IC or a Stardot choke.  670 to 675 you will be ready.  Now with the Nitro it is a good shell but have had some problems with the shell sticking.  Now from what I have been told they fixed them but cant say I have shoot any of the new ones.  They Like big chokes.   :anim_25:
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

I just put a 935 Turkey model on layaway. I will be getting it out in about 6 or 8 weeks and then intend to build it up to a killin' machine! I am going to mount a Burris Fastfire 3 on mine with the Marlin 336 base. I will be shooting a few chokes and loads for testing. I intend to try the following:

Chokes:

  • Sumtoy .675
  • Rhino .695
  • Pure Gold .670
  • Mossberg Ulti-full

Loads:

  • Nitro 3.5" 2.25 oz 4x5x7's
  • Hevi 3.5"/2.25/6
  • Winchester HV 3.5"/2/6 lead
  • Federal HWT 3.5" 7's
  • Federal Mag-Shok 3.5" Lead 6's
  • Nitro 3.5" 2.25 oz Straight 7's

I will be posting updates as I get the gun, chokes, loads, and optics. I will be testing through the summer for something to do after the spring season. If I get it out before March 15th, I am going to stick in the Sumtoy and a box of H13 3.5"/2.25/6's and roll one up.
