I wound up with my grand fathers old home place and came across lots of things I didn't have a clue what it was. After lots of thought and considering the things he did I usually figure it out after a while but this one has me stumped. It looks like it may have went on a mules muzzel but what for? Only thing I can think of is maybe it was biteing at some of the equipment when the plow was hooked up and the nails kept it from doing that. ???

I believe that is what a farmer would put on a calf to get the cow to wean them. When the calf would try to feed, those nails jabbing her in her udder got her attention and not in a good way.

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

Sounds logical. I had no idea.

Yes, that does make sence. But he never had any cows in my lifetime. Just a mule for plowing.
