It's more to do with tungsten prices than people buying all the shells. Tungsten quadrupled in cost in 2012. That's the key element in all of our beloved HTL loads. I'm sure some of it has to do with buyer demand, but more has to do with material cost

True ! The Chinese control/ dominate tungsten futures- the price is so prohibitive that is why ammo companies are coming up with steel/hevi hybrid offerings- the direction things are going lead may be best alternative in a few years
The loads you see today and are available today,  may be the " old whites" 10 years from now - buy up what you can find  -

this "hording up" buying by these panic stricken nuts is the main thing driving up the price

SURE  ... you said a mouthful !! The only ones who causes shortages is OURSELVES !! It's just like the primer shortages from 2008-2011... there was NO shortage but the hoarding by GUNNUTS and GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER nuts bought so much that there wasn't enough to go around for the average reloader, then the semi-nuts started to buy them as fast as they could when they were able to find them. I watched guys buy PALLETS of wrapped primers, 100 of thousands at the time when the rest of were told they had no more.. no individual could shoot that many shots if they fired a thousand a day for the next 20 years. Nowadays you can buy all you want at about the same prices as they were 10 years ago, sad part is there is no longer any demand and the shelves are full. SO just stop buying $6.00 a shot shells and let them sit on the selves and you'll see where the price goes regardless of the market prices for the material. NO demand, No sales, prices will drop in a hurry.. SO, we have the power, now if we could only have the guts to say NO MORE!!

OK, look, here's the deal:

If you use something, and you think gas costs way too much for you to drive 10-30 miles in each direction, to just go buy it "by the box"; and there have even been times that you've made the drive and couldn't find it,.....................you stock up on it when you can get it.  You should have stocked up before the panic ever started.

Call me a hoarder if you want but as of last night I ordered enough H13 3.5" #7's to add to my stockpile. I now have enough of that to last me around 15 years and that's if I get my limit every season. I also bought a CASE of federal heavyweight 3" #7's for my 20 gauge. If I just hunt with that gun that's enough shells to last me 16 or 17 years. I don't plan on ever paying 40.00 + a box for shells that's why I stocked up.
