Fawn still has spots

I have seen fawns with spots as late as mid October here in VA but NEVER this late!
I'm figuring it was born in September maybe even in early October.

I have a friend with the Arkansas Game and Fish that said there were some axis deer released within a couple of miles where I hunt.  They retain their spots throughout their lifetime.  He said that since these were not native species, there is no season...  In this case, he said "if you see 'em, shoot 'em".

I also saw a fawn with spots and it was no more than 3 or 4 weeks old and this was the last week in November in the mountains of south central PA and it sure does get cold in the hills and hollows and the snow has piled up and we have had temperature well below zero already. I've never seen one that late in the year by at least 3 months. It's mother had to get him started in May and she would have had found a buck with antlers on in order to do it.. I'm going to take a little ride tomorrow and see if I can see the little fellow in the cut corn fields.

A few years ago I had a strange case where a guy killed a doe in october that was 2 weeks from droping a fawn.  As it turned out, the situation was interesting.

Does was born very early and made it through the winter.  She became sexually mature in late winter/early spring (March) when she turned 1 year old.  She carried the fawn all summer and was 2 weeks from dropping in October.
