Hey everyone Im moving to Galveston here shortly and didnt know if anyone knew of any hunting options. Researched some public areas but am thinking about working on OK more than TX if i cant figure something out a little better. Any of the public dove hunting fields worth going to? Also if anyone has any contacts that way that may have some info that would be great. Moving from SC and dont have any connections down there so trying to figure some things out prior to arrival. Have plenty of resources in SC i would be willing to trade if applicable (gators, ducks, turkeys, deer).

Galveston is a pretty good piece from OK.  And I think most of the public turkey hunting is done in the western part of the state of OK.  Probably your closest bet for public hunting will be 2-3 hours North of you around Sam Rayburn Lake and Toledo Bend.  There are 2 big national forests there (Angelina and Sabine).  There are Easterns in that neck of the woods and the limit is 1.

If you go West and Northwest, you will find some very good hunting areas, but pretty much everything is private.  If you do your homework, you can find a good lease or do some "day leasing"
People who don't get it, don't get that they don't get it.

Never count out the trird and true method of knocking on doors and asking permission.
Jakes are like scotch. They are not worth a darn until they age.

Clearly you've never hunted Texas! :TooFunny:

It's about 99% pay to hunt in this state.  Something bad that we led the way in. :'(

I can put in the area for a public land eastern but public land for Rio hunting is scarce.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!
