Patterned my gun today at the range with 2 different shells and 2 different chokes. I am a noob at this so tell me what you think. Gun is a SBE 2 with a 24" barrel. I used Win XRHD 3" 6 and Hevi-13 3" 6. The two chokes were a Jellyhead .660 and a Hevi-13 .667. All shots were from a lead sled at 40 yards. I ran a bore snake 2 times between each shot.

4 shots Hevi-13 with hevi choke- 172, 173, 219, and 174 hits 10" circle.
1 shot hevi-13 with jelly head- 98 hits. (Ruled this combo out)
3 shots Win XRHD with Jellyhead- 105, 165, 122 hits
2 shots Win XRHD with hevi choke-156 and 132 hits.

So it looks like the Hevi13 shells and choke are the winners here. Patterns were very even with few gaps. Im not sure why the one shell had 219 hits. Im thinking of trying the Hevi 7's next. Would you guys be satisfied with these results? Thanks for reading.

I'd say you found a winner. Congratulations.

Thanks,

:icon_thumright: I'd be happy with that. Just curious have you tried any 3.5in sells out of that gun? I have the same gun. Where in NY you from? I live in western southern tier .

Hey nyhunter sent you a message. I have shot 3.5" but am happy with the 3" shells so far. Plus I will admit that im sensitive to recoil. What choke/shell combo are you shooting?

The addiction will cost you time and money and alienate those close to you. I can give you the names of a dozen addicts — myself included — whose wives begin to get their hackles up a week before turkey season starts and stay mad until a week after it closes.

170+ hits is pretty good.  You'll probably do better with the 7's, but if your happy with the results you got, stick to it.

Everyone has their own goal for how many hits in the 10" they want.

you should be stomping them with those numbers no problem

You enjoyed patterning the gun because of the lead sled.LOL. that tool has made patterning enjoyable for me and my cheek bone.

Anyway Congrats on some nice averages there. Good luck with it.

Your not kidding lol. That lead sled is a life saver and im sure I would of been flinching and throwing my patterns off without it.

You are good to go my friend. 7' s should do better but  not necessary for hunting purposes.
