Hello, folks.  I'm new to the forum and turkey hunting.  This is my first post.  Even though I've hunted, mainly bowhunted, most of my life, at the ripe old age of 52, I turkey hunted for the first time this year.  I decided if I was going to do this, I ought to learn as much as possible, so I went to the Turkey Hunting School at Westervelt Lodge.  I got to meet Eddie Salter and Tom Kelly.  It was great.  I've also learned a lot from this site.  Some of the things learned are this is another way to spend money, this is habit-forming, and the automatic reply to non-residents is "There are no turkeys in Alabama".

I have a question for the Benelli guys/gals.  I have a Benelli M2 Field that was purchased for turkey hunting.  It is one of the models that is not drilled and tapped for a scope mount.  I've read where different folks recommend that this receiver not be drilled and tapped.  The reasons most often given is the material thickness in this area.  I would like to have some type of sight on this gun.

I noticed an add for the Burris SpeedBead.  The question is:  Does anybody have experience with the Speedbead, or other type of sight, on this particular gun?  Any feedback is appreciated.

Speed bead is awesome without a doubt and would choose it over any sight. The one pro it has over the regular fastfire is if it some reason quits working or battery goes dead you can still see your bead. Plus it mounts lower on the gun

Swamp Hunter

I have used a Speedbead on my Benelli M1 for two seasons now and have no complaints. I think the most surprising thing about it is that it stays on target even though I handle my guns pretty rough.  The main reason I got it is because at my age it was getting increasingly hard to line up the standard bead and a turkeys head early in the morning in the swamp where I hunt. The Speedbead takes care of that problem.

As Turkey Slayer pointed out, you can still use your gun if the battery fails.

First of all, welcome to OG. It is a great place and we look forward to getting to know you.

The SpeedBead is an excellent sight, for all the reasons already mentioned. I've had 2 of them and used them on my Benelli SBE/SBEII shotguns with success.

I prefer however to just use the bead or beads whenever possible for turkey hunting.

Other than the SBE/SBEII, when I go to some type of sight, I normally mount some Truglo "Pro Series" open sights. They mount on the rib so I never need to be concerned about the receiver/barrel relationship. The fiber optics show up well and they are fully adjustable for windage and elevation.

Your M2 is an excellent gun and it should give you years of reliable service.

Again, welcome and best of luck to you as you pursue this new venture.

Thanks,
Clark
