As most of you know Preacher and I just came back from our MO/IA trip. The trip began with Robin picking me up from the ST Louis airport. Then we drove about 4 hours to Memphis MO. We headed to meet with the farmer and get the low down on where to hunt and where the turkeys were. I had been there 10 years ago and didn't know if I would remember. It didn't take long before things started to come back and look familiar. We spotted our first longbeard in a cut cornfield. We marked that spot and kept driving. The rest of the turkeys we saw were in the plowed fields and we took note of that as well. After getting lined up it was time to try and roost a turkey. I finally got a turkey to gobble by gobbling at him. So we had 1 roosted for the first morning. That hunt was the MO Strutter video I posted. During the first day and a half Robin kept telling me how " good looking he was". Being from California you would have thought I was used to that, but I wasn't. One night he even asked me to rate him on a scale of 1-10 on how good looking he was. I told him that I was not an expert at that and would have to refrain myself from doing such and gave him a N/A. In the next 3 days I heard how good looking ROBIN was about 150 times. He even told a waitress how good looking he was. By this time I am starting to wonder if he needed some encouragement or maybe he had been abandoned as a child. He had missed 1 turkey and didn't shoot at another that was in gun range. On Friday we hunted IA in the morning and it was a horrible day; rainy, wet, cold and windy. We had no luck in IA and decided to go back to MO on Saturday and check in on a couple turkeys we named the 3 amigos. 3 Longbeards that had been running together with some hens and a few Jakes. Sure enough the amigos where in the field. We made a plan and I let Robin out to get around them. He was going to try and call them in and I was in a holding pattern. I had already killed my 1st week MO gobbler and had to wait until Monday to hunt MO again. I parked in a spot I could watch a little from 500 yards away and waited to see what was fixin to happen. After about 2 hours I decided to make something happen, so I drove down to where the amigos were. I figured Robin had plenty of time to get below them and into shooting position. It worked like a charm, except for 1 minor detail. Robin shot and missed. When he came back to the truck he was a dejected hunter. I asked again if he had patterned his gun and suggested that he might need to sight it in again. We decided to get some more shells, he was running low at this time, and go to the firing range and shoot it. On the way there we were in a serious gun shooting conversation, when Robin says " Joe I need some encouragement". To which I replied without skipping a beat " Your a good looking man". We both about choked ourselves from laughing so hard. Almost had to pull off the road to complete the barrel laugh. We made it to the gun range and his gun was shooting about 3" to the left at 12 yards. After we got it sighted in he never missed another turkey and killed his monster IA turkey that afternoon.  The moral of this story is "Sometimes you just need a little encouragement".
