At the large plant where i work, we have a fence behind one of the buildings that borders a farm and the hill drops away into a creek bottom and a ridge beyond that, all part of a state game lands. Since i've got turkey fever so badly, i slipped out to the fence for a quick couple minutes this morning around quarter to six and was greeted by three different gobblers ripping it up. Stood and listened for a few mins and got back to the grind.....with a lighter step and a goofy grin on my face. This sint even a spot im likely to hunt this year, but not that it matters. Funny how that sound can elevate a mood. That just made my day so much better. Cmon saturday!
That ol' tom's already dead. He just don't know it yet .... The hard part is convincing him.

Are you REALLY working that gobbler, or is HE working YOU?

I feel your pain. I have to wait until May. I might even have to consider that spot on the mornings before work if I was you...

So this morning, i had a small contingent of  turkey hunting coworkers and we slipped out at quarter to six again to check these birds. We werent disappointed. Two had moved considerably closer and were roosted at the top of a ridge, not far off a field corner. I got them cranking pretty good in response to my owl hoots and we all enjoyed a few mins of "turkey time" before we got back to business. Before we went inside i commeneted that due to the drizzle and their proximity to the field, i wouldnt be surprised if they made an appearance. Twenty mins later i peeked out the window and sure enough, two strutters and five hens feeding in the field! I have to admit, with all these distractions production may be starting to suffer! Cmon saturday!

live and hunt central pa here had snow all over the ridges some places over a foot but the turkeys were still gobbling today man what crazy weather...!

Perhaps, if anything, this recent cooler weather has benefited us. Gave the birds a dose of reality. Remember back in march everyone saying it would be over before it started. Thats hardly the case. Everything i'm seeing is classic late april. The first week we will be seeing a lot of birds still henned up, like most years. Ive pretty much given in to the realization that i will be all but worthless at work today and tomorrow!

I imagine I probably wouldn't get a whole lot of work done either. Good you have some entertainment though.
