Introduce myself and a few questions

Hello there, Ive been hunting for turkey and deer as well as small game since i was about 16. i love my deer and turkey hunting and have been fortunate enough to have harvested 7 toms. 2 of my biggest being a 22lb double beard and a bird i shot last year being a 24lb 10 1/4"beard with 1.5" spurs. this year has been different then other years and its becoming difficult to find lonely birds and have them gobble on the roost in the morning. im at the point where im not sure if im doing it right this year since things just arent working so far, what tactics have worked the best for you guys hunting henned up birds?. I have tried different decoy options but am yet to have a bird come visit me which is odd since ive had ood luck over the years hunting. when setup for a morning hunt what calls are you doing and how often, loud to get that bird to get fired up for you, i am yet to have one answer a call but i know they are there. they gobble on the roost sometimes then fly down and vanish it seems. sorry for the questions right off the bat just hoping you guys could give some ideas you have that may help me this season!

Well zach, you said exactly what I was going to say about calling to the hens.
Me and a few friends I hunt with hunt a area with tons of hens. Yesterday, my buddy was set up about 150 yrds away from me. We had some thundering a good ways off but you could tell that he was Hung up gobbling from the same spot. So we put on a good ol fighting call sequence with loud cutting and loud fighting puts, wouldn't you know it that in 20 mins a angry hen showed up with her longbearded boyfriend. She left alone....

You've done pretty well and taken some nice birds by the sound. You aren't quite the babbling fool that you might feel like right now. Everybody deals with tough, uncooperative birds sometimes (or all the time, it seems.) We just get in a funk sometimes. Be persistent. A day can make a big difference, but you'll never know it if u give up. Its tough to be confident when nothing is responding or coming in, but trust your experience and your skills. Eventually you will find one that wants to play ball with ya.

Not sure where u hunt, but right now, in PA alot of birds are henned up early but if u stick it out, we're killing a decent amount of birds after ten am. If u hear a bird fire off on his own after ten am, move in close and set up, likely u can kill him. That ten to twelve block has claimed alot of birds over the years, and its prob the best time to work birds in this phase of breeding. Good luck and welcome to oldgobbler!
