I think we can call this myth BUSTED!

+1 to the above.  Several yrs ago, I rounded a corner on a logging road at the same time as a longbeard from the opposite direction.  Short story is that after two Hail Mary shots later longbeard is flying off putting.  I moved on about 50 yds sat down and waited about 30 min and started calling w/ my new trumpet. (Boy did I suck!) Turkey came back to die.  He was skittish  but  came back!
