Can you attach an optic to a soldered-on vent rib???

I have a single shot with a vent rib. The vent rib is soldered onto the barrel. I talked to a guy at a small outdoor sports store and he said that he didn't think it would be a good idea to mount anything on the rib because the rib might come loose.

What do you guys think? I won't really be thrashing on the gun and optic very hard. I am fairly particular haha. I always try to keep my shotgun clean, dry, rust free, scratch free, etc.

Most, if not all, guns with a vented rib are brazed to the barrel, not soldered. Similar techniques, different bonding materials, vastly different strengths. If you need further confirmation, contact a reputable local gunsmith.

I bolted a Hi Vis rifle sight setup on to my Beretta and take it off after season for the past 4 years. No problems so far.

I drilled and tapped the rib of my 870 and put a 2X pistol scope put on it. LOVED that setup! Never had a problem with it until someone stole it.

It's pretty easy to mount some Truglo "Pro Series" open sights on ribs and they work very well.

There are also a few bases for optics that are made to mount on ribs of shotguns for "scout like" mounting of pistol scopes with very long eye relief or for standard relief scopes. I've never been a big fan of those but some people seem to like them.
