Anybody ever shoot the Old White with 1 3/4 # 4? I know a fellow that has a couple boxes and want to sell or trade. What kind of patterns did you get with them, I have sevral # 6 but if these would shoot good I may have to get them.

I guess it depends on one's definition of good. I'm nearing the end of my stash of OW #6s. There's a farm store nearby that has 10-12 boxes of the #5s. I bought a box to pattern. While they pattern evenly, the density starts to wane quickly after 40yds.

It's kind of a waste in my mind. There's plenty of energy to kill a long, long way, but there's simply not enough pattern density beyond 45yds. Clearly, the #4s would be even worse. I'm sure you'd be good on pattern density to 40yd, but you can do the easily do the same with lead #5s and #6s.

I have 11 old white #6s and ten o.w. #5s left in my stash.  Agree the 5s don't look near as good on paper as the 6s.  I wouldn't hesitate to shoot either.  Agree those 1090fps number 4s are probably a waste of time although some guys still swear by 4s.  They are a fading group.  When my current stash of hevi is exhausted I'm going back to my old WW HV 1 3/4oz number 5s (lead) unless I'm hunting an area that requires no-tox.  Getting tired of all the "new" high priced crap that seems to be introduced daily at $9.00 per shell.

Kinda what I was thinking, I too am nearing the end of my stash, I may have another year or possible 2 but just thought I'd put that out there, What kind of #'s were you getting with the 5's.

While I still feel the OW #6 was the best factory turkey load ever to hit the market in terms of efficiency, the 3-2-6 isn't too far behind.  One good thing about the 3-2-6 IMO is it gives a slightly larger pattern than the OW, something we can all use at times.

Yes. I had a case of those shells. They were good for geese and that's how I used them.

The patterns were not what you'd want to see for turkeys but they made some very big holes in geese.
