Anyone Patterned Fed Heavyweight 1 7/8 oz #7s?

Has anyone patterned the 3.5 inch, 1 7/8 oz, #7 Federal Heavyweight shells?  I'm wondering how difficult it would be to get at least 300 pellets in a ten inch circle at 40 yards with this load?

Thanks
Bill

Yes.  Great shells, but the payload is wayyy to low for those #'s.  Although, it does seem to hold together better than Hevi 13 at extended ranges (ie. 50-55 yds).
Realistic pellet counts in 10" at 40 yards is 150 to 185.  Mine averages 175 pellets at 40 yards, but still retains over 100 at 55 yards.
They are real killers!!!  They would really shine if they did away with the flight control wad and increased to a larger payload.
If its numbers you want, go to Hevi 13 #7s 2.25 oz.

Thanks for the info.  That pellet count at 40 yards is a lot lower than I expected, however retaining 100 out to 55 is great.

What kind of choke are you using?

With the HS undertaker I was getting 150-160 at 40 yards last year. Problem was it wasn't a HTL choke, had a heck of a time getting it out :TrainWreck1: I'm going with a Carlson's .660 or a Remington extra full which I think is either .670 or .675 this year. I also have an Undertaker that is HTL, but it's ported and I've had several people tell me the flite control wad doesn't like ported tubes.

SBE2  24" barrel, lengthened forcing come, and polished barrel, with Gobblers Guns .640 choke.

K9Doc,
Did you polish the barrel of your SBE2? I thought they were chrome lined and that was not recommended? I have a SBE2 and just looking for isight. Thanks for your time.

I've seen a few patterns posted that got a little over 200 with that load. IMO, that is about as good as you will get with that shell. Like said before they hold there pattern better at longer distances. If you can get between 170-200 at 40yds, you still will probably have 100 or better at 50-55yds. I had a mossberg 500 with a 24" barrel. Using a trulock non-ported .660, I would average high 170's with the 3" load. I still would get between 100-110 at 50yds.

Anything is possible but I dont believe 300 is going to happen. That shell has roughly 400-410 pellets in it. Awesome turkey medicine for sure. I have a best for myself at 255 with no wind 80 degrees. Shot that load a lot with about 10 different chokes and several guns. I love that shell. I could imagine without the flight control wad it wouldnt be as hard to find the best setup. Ive heard some have done ok with a Jellyhead. I suggest extended, non ported and around a 650 choke, if you are looking for really tight core. The shell works with an open choke too and a good 175 hit pattern or so is fine for hunting. That HW doesnt take any prisoners when it connects. You may benefit from a polished barrel as well. I shoot a Ballistics 2" extended non ported .650 headhunter.. pure evil with heavyweights in the 12 ga

Yes.  I sent my SBE2 to Gobbler Guns and Rob legnthened forcing cone, polished barrel, ported the barrel and installed a .640 Choke tube.  It shoots the Hevi 13's way better tho. even at extended ranges , due to pellet counts.  But the Federal is 15gr/cc.  It hits like a hammer.  It will break bone a looooong way out. :OGturkeyhead:
