My wife worked at Lowes for a while and their policy is to not approach thieves but to try to get a description and license plate number if possible. The nerve of some of these people, walking out with huge items like they free. I don't get it, but I ain't in charge. I also think the "lazy and don't care Factor" figures in as well. Z

A few years ago our Mayor's wife was arrested for shoplifting in WalMart ... Next thing you know, you didn't hear anything else about it ... He's a sorry Mayor also in my opinion

Went to Lowe's over the summer. There was a lady in a Lowe's uniform following a gentleman asking him to stop and return the items. He had a hole Milwaukee tool kit. I asked the lady if she wanted me to stop the gentleman and she said we're not allowed to ask you to do that. I ask her if she had called the law and she said she's not allowed to do that either. So I punched the guy out and returned their stuff. Left and never heard anything else about it.

I worked at a Lowes for a few years after I retired. It seems to vary by store how they handle things. We were told not to get physical with people, but we definitely confronted them and called the law. We would block exits and do our best to stop them, it still got physical a few times. Our manager was a no BS guy and he just took the heat from corporate, but we had less shrinkage then most every store in our district. Thieves learn were they can get away with it. Later on corporate really did push not to confront thieves because they feared law suites and I left about that time. I caught a guy cutting a hole in the outdoor fence once to pass out merchandise to a accomplice. Somehow he found himself face down on a concrete floor in a very uncomfortable position until cops cuffed him, I have no idea how that happened  :funnyturkey:

I think that is outstanding.  To many times, people get punished for doing the right thing.  Glad that wasn't you.

[/quote] luckily I have several friends in the local police department so I wasn't terribly worried ;D

What if a Walmart guy is trained by Walmart for anti theft.....trys to stop a theft and is shot during the situation.

Where does the liability fall? Walmart!

WV Flopper

I probably should have said "Where will the liability fall".

I was in Walmart recently and they had caught some guy trying to steal SEVERAL buggies full of stuff. Cases of beer, briskets, sausage..I don't remember what else but it was 5 or 6 buggies full of stuff. No idea how he thought he could do this and get away. Got to give him credit for nerve though.

Tail Feathers

I was chasing a shoplifter across the WM parking lot a few years back, (LEO) and the WM Loss Prevention guy was running beside me asking me not to tell his boss he left the building.
They can approach but not chase outside the store. We caught the guy after a 300 yard run to the road. I wondered how his store report read on that one.  :TooFunny:
They had some good ones, some worthless.  All were hampered by dumb store policies.
