Thermocell

Got a couple thermocells the elements don't seem to get has hot as they use to. Have you had this problem.

Yes I have. I just bought new ones when that happened.

Have you ever tried refilling your own butane? I find the stuff you buy at gas station to be way hotter than what thermacell puts in them. Easy to do, not really anything special needed, check the tube for videos

I've seen some of that on video. Interesting concept. I was trying to avoid that as I usually only use them in spring but you might be on to something. I'll look into it. Thanks

I've switched over to Nitecore with a battery and love it. Compact unit as well. Seems to work just as good as Thermocell if not better. I've not used it a full day (as most mornings where I've hunted has been cool enough for no pesky bugs or I've been in states where 1 or 12 is the cut off) but if I did I would carry my battery pack to keep it going and just recharge it over night.

I was given a Nitecore as a gift. Do you use the same pymethrin pads in them as the thermacell?

Yes you can use pads. I got a small nitecore. Doesn't last more than 30/45 minutes on a charge. Guess you have to carry external battery

lm gonna order one to try. Nitecore has them on back order so it might be a little later this season.

I just got the Nitecore EMR40 today from Walmart online. It's 1 ounce heavier than my Thermacell so not bad. About half the size tho so that's nice. Haven't tried it yet but the bugs are out and it won't be long.

I used my nitecore EMR40 the other day on the high setting. On a full charge it lasted from 6 am until 1:30 pm (7.5 hours) The book says it lasts 10 hours but not sure if that's on the high setting. I didn't change pads and I had no mosquito problem the entire time. The nite core pads are said to last 6 hours. I will say it takes awhile for it to fully recharge but will definitely recharge fully over night. I do like my nitecore as it's compact and I can clip it to my vest when I'm moving. It protected me from the gnats in Illinois for sure. Without it, it would have been absolutely brutal

I have the emr 06 tac ultra. Says it will run 3.5 hours on full charge. It won't make it long enough for me to grill a steak in my backyard. Maybe I got a dud

Thermacell used to service units that no longer work.  I can't remember the cost, but I've sent one back before.  It works perfectly again.  The striker wouldn't ignite.

Bought a new Thermacell.  Works perfect but I put it in my bag and the switch rubbed against it. Lost the whole charge of butane. The push button worked better with  little chance of it coming on. I think I done with them. Not designed by or tested by outdoorsmen. I feel they cheapened the new hand held units up.
