Wingbone finishing

I'm building a couple of wingbone calls from a gobbler I killed the other day. Wondering if u should put a clear coat or something to the call ? If so, what do you recommend?

My buddy used urethane. Came out pretty good. He's no pro call maker but it runs good

I keep mine bare bone.

If you're looking to make the wraps pop I believe guys use the epoxy for fishing rod guides.

No sealer for mine and use braided fishing line as a wrap and sealed with 5-min epoxy.

I do grind some tracks in the bone and use a Sharpie to darken the lines.

I have one from a hen I made about 30 years ago. No finish on it and it is still in great shape.

That was the first wingbone I ever made. Used Lovett Williams's book "After The Hunt" to make it. I made a few more since but that first one sounds the best and plays easy. Just got lucky I guess. Still use it regularly now, it's one of my go-to calls.

Thanks for all the feedback.  Ended up leaving them bare bone, but I did use the braided fishing line in a moss green color. I'm keeping one for myself and giving the other to my 8 year old grandson.  He was sitting right beside me when I took this gobbler. First one he has got to witness being called up and killed. He's hooked now.

I didnt put a finish on mine.  Made 2 a few years ago.  Little j b weld to hold the bones together then wrapped in braid.  Let my 2 daughters each paint 1.  Not pretty but  I' ll never let them go unless they want the 1 they painted.
