Headed out at 0-dark-thirty this morning, went through the gate to my neighbor's cattle ranch and paused. Dawn was breaking, so I eased out the owl call and hooted.
Nothing.
Although it was early, I busted out the crow call and sounded off on it.
2 gobblers hammered back about 100 yards away.
I quickly grabbed at seat at the nearest sizeable tree. I broke out the slate call and gave them some soft tree talk.
They loved it!!

I let a few minutes go by and they shocked gobbled. I gave them some more soft tree talk, and they roared their approval.
Soon after, I heard them fly down. I hit them with soft yelps from my diaphragm. They double gobbled and were closing the gap.
My heart was beating out of my chest when I saw movement. I eased my head that way and saw.....
NO, not 2 gobblers headed my way.....Instead, it was 3 coyotes crashing the party.

They were cruising around looking for a turkey for breakfast.
Needless to say, the gobblers flew off and my hunt was over.
My season of ruined hunts continues.....
