SA-28 Wolff Spring Replacement

I replaced the magazine spring on my SA-28 today to hopefully eliminate any failure to pick up a shell from the magazine. It's only happened once but for just over $11 including shipping it is worth a try. I'll do some testing in the near future with 1 ounce lead and a couple TSS to make sure everything functions. Getting the spring retainer off is the toughest part of the project. The article below helped me greatly as there is nothing in the owners manual pertaining to this. Post #15 is where the good info is. I also ran a dry patch down the magazine tube as was suggested in a previous post. There was quite a bit of gunk in there.

I did a function test this morning on the Wolff Spring replacement. I loaded the SA-28 with an Apex TSS in the chamber, an Apex TSS second shot and a Federal 1oz heavy field load for the 3rd shot. I fired all three shots in rapid succession and all picked up and ejected correctly.

Some notes if you decide to change out your mag spring on your SA-28.
1. Getting the magazine retainer off will be the hardest part. The website   
   mentioned above has invaluable pictures and information.
2. The Wolff spring will be much longer than needed. It is rated 20% more tension
   than the original so it can be trimmed to the length of the original. I gave
   mine an extra inch or so.
3. Remove the follower and run a dry patch down the mag tube. I was surprised how.     
   much gunk was there. I'm sure some was from the factory and the rest from 5
   years of hunting.
4. The magazine retainer goes back in much easier than the removal.

I have had 10 of these Turkish SA guns over the years.. Moss, Weatherby and Tristar Vipers in every gauge. They are all basically the same and share many of the same parts. Haven't ever had an issue, but it's good to know just in case. I may clean the mag tube on my primary guns just to be safe, my guess is a dirty mag tube contributes a lot to the issue.

My SA20 magazine spring cap it totally different, but a pain in the arse to remove!

May try a new mag spring, had a couple jams this spring on turkey loads, it picked up the second shell but it was wedged with the bolt open.
