I have a Mossberg Silver Reserve 28 gauge and in the long range barrel I have a .515 Code Black Turkey choke. I'm getting a really nice pattern with 1 1/4 ounce of #10's at 1050fps at 40 yards, 368 bb's in a 10 inch circle. I was wondering what max range would be with 10's because I've always used 9's. I was wondering if I misjudged the yardage and if it turned out to be 45 yards would the 10's do the job? I never intend to shoot over 40 yards and prefer closer I'm just wondering the effectiveness of the 10's at that range in case I make a yardage mistake.

You should be fine if you misjudge it by a few yards. I carry a rangefinder with me and will quickly range a few trees if I have time when I set up on a bird. I shot one last year with my .410 Tristar Viper at 38 yards and it didn't even flop, looked like you flipped a kill switch when I squeezed the trigger. I'm using Viper Ammunition, 1oz of #10's.

Cannonball what choke are you using with those 1 oz of 10's in your tristar viper 410?

I've seen some numbers tossed around that at 1100fps, the 10s would be good to 52yrds for 1.5" of penetration.

That's a great pattern for a 410! My G2 Viper 410 seems to favor the .390 choke also. Thank you for the picture! I'm happy with both patterns out of my guns just wondered on the killing power of those 10's, guess we will have to see this spring.
