Do Toms hang around poults (less than 1 year old )?
This time of year or during any time before the next spring...

This time of year it's usually hens and poults together in groups and toms in their own group.  Sometimes a tom will hang with a group of hens and poults, but that is the exception.

Yes, they are sometimes together in winter. I took these pictures last week, this was a large rafter of at least five hens with maybe 10 "birds of the year" as well as 4 monster Toms and a younger Tom or two and a couple of super Jakes in the mix. I could only get pictures of a small part of the group.

I knew that Tom's usually hang out together and hens with poults. Seems what's normal. I saw a big bird with a beard, (much bigger beard than Ive seen on hens before)with some poults a few days ago. I guess it could've been a hen with them. I've seen more turkey activity than what I normally get to see this fall/winter. A while back I saw 20+ hens and lots of Toms and Jakes hanging out in a field. Some strutting going on, got a few to gobble with the horn.
Trying to expand my knowledge or understanding about them. Thanks.

Nice, so they will hangout like a "family unit" on occasions?..

They'll hangout like people hanging out at the buffet.

X2 ... it all depends on the food source ....etc...  you will see a little of everything with these birds ... They are year round challenging each other for pecking order etc...
