Bought this used choke and never seen guts like this before. Is this normal for ic chokes?
Maybe they forgot to buff the rough cuts out?

Glades

Yes. IC and Sumtoy use wad-stripping rings. That is normal.

Yes.  As Glades said, IC's strip the wad when the shot comes out of the barrel slowing the wad down.  If you want to see it, pick up your wad, which should fall about 20 yards out and take a look.  It shreds the petals of the wad.  Make sure your keep the choke clean.  A good scrub with Brake cleaner and an old toothbrush will break down the plastic residue from the wads.

Is that wad residue? If not, the wad stop rings look like they took a real beating?

Bingoman

Not residue. Possibly been shooting steel through it?

Not sure, but it does look unusual. Maybe Sumtoy could chime in.

Yea, something looks wrong with the "chips" on the stepped ring edges. I looked at mine, clean distinct rings with sharp edges. Send this pic to SumToy, he will know what's going on there....

Give it a good cleanin' , ifn it still looks suspicious contact Stuart or Mike @ IC.

Glades

I have a Sumtoy that I bought used, and it has the same nicks to the rings. I contacted William about it, and it said the rings get chewed up by TSS shot, but it is safe to shoot.

the Ward

If true, that is just another reason not to bother with tss. Pretty much why I won't buy used chokes
anymore.

Several years ago, when I 1st started shooting Hevi-shot I saw this same thing happen with Indian Creek choke tubes. Scoring the rings inside of the choke tube.

Have a good one, Bo
