this morning we started out hunting the bird i have been after most of the season but was running late and ended up spooking 1 of the toms out of the tree on the way in. the other 1 just stood there on the limb about 30 yards away putting and clucking so we backed up and made a circle to get up on the hill where they was at yesterday. he gobbled a little at fly down but i had a feeling he was done for a bit. he flew down and met up with his buddy about 150 yards away but i could tell when they gobbled they was getting farther away. after waiting a bit we decided to leave these alone and go check the spot where i had seen the 2 toms by there self a could days ago. as we was getting close to that field i looked over and spotted 3 toms in another field we had permission to hunt. we made a loop down into the holler and got about as close as we could and set up against a tree in the edge of the field. i hadn't seen any hens but i had been seeing 2 hens in this field by there self almost everyday. i was hoping they wasn't there. i started calling and 1 gobbled, a few mins later a hen came out and i could hear drumming so i figured they was with these hens. we watched 1 hen take off and fly over the hill, i guess she going to nest while the other fed back towards the toms. a few mins later she fed out the hill in our direction but was still way to far up on the hill for us to have a chance to do anything. finally she started over the hill and was coming towards us.  i looked behind her and here came the toms. 1 of them dropped over the hill alot more than the others and ended up coming to about the edge of shotgun range. i told dad to shoot but he said maybe the others will come down and we can double. about that time this tom went back up the hill to the others and i figured we was gonna have to wait till they went out of sight and make another move when i noticed the hen had started back our way with the toms following. the strutter and the first tom that had came down started working there way straight towards us, the strutter was on my side to shoot. they finally get in range and i can see dad getting his gun ready so i get mine to my shoulder and he starts to count, when he hit 3 we both shot and filled my 2nd tag and dads first for 2021. i told him when we stood up i bet there 2 year olds but i was wrong haha. dads bird weighted 17 pound had a 10 1/4 in beard a 1 5/16 spur and the spur broke off at a inch. mine weighted 22 pound 8 ounces had a 10 in beard and 1 7/16 spurs. i would have liked to have killed the bird i have been fooling with most of the season but wasn't gonna pass up a chance to double with dad today and he still has a tag so hopefully he can get a chance at him.
