Spring Creek Calls

Is it recommended to use a ported or non-ported choke for the Fed Hvywt? I'll be starting out my test with a 870, 26" barrel shooting 7's. My thoughts were an Undertaker or Rem SPF (non) or a Tight Wad (ported).

Federal prints the following on the Heavyweight, Flight Control shot shell boxes:

"Best performance achieved with chokes that do not strip wad or reduce muzzle pressure."

Shorthand version: Do not use ported choke tubes.

With the RSF, you should see patterns in the 130-135 range in a 10" circle at 40 yards. More if you have polished the barrel. Some folks have tried the ported Jellyhead chokes with good results, though.

Good luck.

Non ported chokes seem to do the best with Fed HW 7's.

Although Pure Gold is supposed to do well with Flight Control i haven't had very good results with the Fed HW 7's out of the 12guage or 20guage. (.670 or .570)

The best results i had with the Rem 870 12 guage  and Fed 7's was with the Hastings  (non-ported) .665

200 in a 10" circle @ 40yds.

Had some amazing results with a beretta 390 and the hevi choke .573 with Fed 7's.

173 in a 10" circle @ 40yds.
