"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail" (Lamentations 3:22).

We take so much of life for granted.  How many earthly blessings we enjoy without giving them a thought.  We flip on a a switch and expect the lights to go on.  We turn on the faucet and expect the water to flow.  We step on the brake pedal and expect the car to stop.

But one day, the lights don't turn on, water doesn't flow, and the car doesn't stop.  By way of these failures we realize how much we rely on the simple things of life.

Do we also, in a similar way, take God for granted?  We expect the sun to rise and set every day.  We look to the seasons to follow their respective order.   Yes, God is dependable and we can rely on His faithfulness!  He never fails or forgets us.  What would it take for us to realize how much we depend on Him?

Even though we forget Him, He remains faithful!  He reaches out to reclaim us every time.  Like the father in the story of the prodigal son, our Heavenly Father scans the horizon with open arms waiting for you and me to return.

He has washed us clean in the blood of His Son, Jesus.  He nurtures our faith by the Word of His Gospel.  The forgiveness of our sins in Jesus is always available.  In the cross of His Son, He has reconciled us to Himself.

He is the Giver of every good and perfect gift.  Never does He fail in providing all that is necessary for  our body and soul.  We praise Him for His never failing compassion, which endures forever!

May our gracious Heavenly Father continue to give us the ability and determination to remain faithful to Him.
