Exodus 35:5 During the offering a boy pulled a dollar from his pocket for the offering plate. The man behind him tapped his shoulder and handed him a twenty-dollar bill. The boy was perplexed, but he dropped the twenty into the plate too. Afterward, the boy asked the man about it. The man said, "That was your twenty. It fell out of your pocket when you pulled out the dollar." The boy had put $21 into the collection plate, but he only got credit in heaven for one! But tithing is a spiritual reality, just like reading the Bible, praying, and witnessing. It enhances our spiritual growth, maturity, and poise. It curbs our bent toward materialism. It helps express our worship, and it funds the work of God around the world. Don't be afraid to be generous with the Lord. Give with a willing heart. James, the half-brother of Jesus, has quite the resumé: He was the leader of the church in Jerusalem, the author of the book of James in the New Testament, and an incredible man of prayer. In James 5, James speaks to church elders about praying for those who need healing. He reminded them that the first and most important step in prayer is confession. It's getting ourselves right with God. How do we do that? Silently: Just between you and God, confess where you've fallen short in action, thoughts, and even in your heart towards others. Privately: Go directly to the person whom you've wronged and ask for their forgiveness. Publicly: Public confession is only for rare occasions, often when spiritual leaders of the church fall into a public sin where it's known throughout the community. In that case, they are to confess their sin publicly and ask for forgiveness. So, how do confession and prayer life relate? Sin blocks our prayers. Any sin we haven't dealt with will hinder our prayers and our connection to God. But when we confess that sin, there is immediate cleansing, relief, and forgiveness from God. What past sin is keeping you from connecting with God? Confess it today and experience His instant freedom and forgiveness. #83
