On at first light and off going in the case at the end of the day. Shake awake feature is really nice. Switch batteries out every 3 years and carry a spare.Z

Brief answer to the original question. Not enough to make any real difference in population numbers.

Turkey Hunting Tips ,Strategies & Methods / Re: Hearing protection
Last post by Marc - April 10, 2025, 12:42:19 PM
Mouth calls and any call that you blow (such as a diaphragm, trumpet, tube calls, etc.) will sound different with any plugs in.  Being a duck hunter, I had to get used to calling with plugs in, and I was able to adapt fairly quickly.

I have not noticed a difference in friction calls, outside of hearing the imperfections a bit better.

With or without hearing protection (Tetra's) in, if you really want to hear how your calls sound, record them and listen.  Recording my own calling has improved my diaphragm calling considerably.  I was initially very disappointed in what in my head sounded great, but on recording was "sup-par."

In the field, you will hear birds gobble at much further distances, and hear a lot more sounds of the woods, including chirping and clucks of turkeys.  I feel that the Tetra's are a HUGE asset in the field.

I turn mine on as soon as it's pulled from the case. It gets turned off before going back in the case. I do have one Holosun with shake awake that doesn't get turned off. I replace all batteries before season starts and carry a spare in my vest just in case I get a bad battery.

Quote from: Jbird22 on April 09, 2025, 09:48:20 AMMy EDC is a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. For cleaning a turkey, my absolute favorite is a Havalon Piranta-Edge.

In my deer kill kit I have a full size Griptilian. That thing is a workhorse.
